Businesses built on passion - Oligra Events

We started to follow Oligra Events on Instagram as a local business - we really liked the branding and then discovered the services offered are great too. We reached out when Oligra Events mentioned attending a local business networking event and it was great to meet Sara in person. Hearing Sara talk so passionately about how the business was formed and the vision for Oligra Events meant we were keen to feature them on our blog.

Sara and Keet can help you put the wow factor into your event.

Tell us a little bit about your business.

Oligra offers a full range of event planning services for all types of celebration, from full event planning to on the day coordination.

We help individuals, businesses and charities realise the event of their dreams, whatever stage they are at in the planning process.

What inspired you to set up Oligra Events?

Before becoming mums to Grace (Keet’s daughter,19 months) and Olive (my daughter, 1 month), we both worked in fast paced, demanding full-time roles that we gave our all to.

Becoming mums has given us both a fresh perspective. We still want to be great business women, but we also want to be ‘present’ to watch our girls grow and be there for all their ‘firsts’. We wanted to build a business of our own that would allow us to have the best of both worlds.

We’ve always loved planning events for family and friends and spent a great deal of our working lives planning events in the corporate and charity sectors, so it felt like the natural next step to take this experience and turn our passion into a business.

What gave you the final nudge/ push to go for it?

We have been best friends for over 10 years and have toyed with the idea of setting up a business for a long time but have never had the guts to do it.

Back in February, with my maternity leave fast approaching, I think we finally realised that this was the perfect time to give it a go – what did we have to lose? We were also fuelled with coffee and cake, which is when all our best ideas come to life!

We realised that as our girls grow up, we will always encourage them to pursue their dreams, so why weren’t we doing the same? It was time we heeded our own advice and took the very scary but exciting leap.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

Driving enquiries! As a new business, we are busy getting our name out there and working out how best to connect with our target audience.

It has been really helpful to connect with other local businesses to learn how they have established themselves. There are so many interesting people out there with fantastic businesses – it feels great to be part of that community.

And, as mums, we are trying to find a balance between running a business and our family lives.

Describe your greatest success/ the thing you are most proud of.

At this point in time, I’d say we are most proud of finally taking the plunge and getting the business set up.

We had such a clear idea of what we wanted our brand to look like and although a long process, it was most definitely worth it. As Oligra means so much to us, we wanted the logo to hold meaning too: the name inspired by our girls; the flowers are our birth flowers; the circle to show the four of us united as one and green for women’s empowerment.

We are so proud of the Oligra brand and all that goes with it.

What motivates you to keep forging ahead with your business?

Enjoying special occasions with family, friends and colleagues is what life is all about, but we are all so busy these days we don’t do enough of it. We are passionate about bringing people together and helping to create memorable experiences. Seeing a room filled with smiling faces and laughter at events we have been involved in gives us such a buzz.

It goes without saying that our girls are our number one inspiration – showing Grace and Olive to follow their dreams and that women can do it all.

In the long run we’d love to build something that perhaps they can take over and make their own, if that’s what they wanted to do of course.

Thank you so much to Sara and Keet for sharing their story with us here at Cat's Pajamas. We always feel inspired hearing about the journeys of others.
